Adolescent Inpatient Program

At Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital, we recognize that young people face many unique challenges as they navigate this critical stage of growth. They may struggle with identity formation, peer pressure, academic stress, and family conflicts. These relentless demands can negatively impact their well-being.

For this reason, we offer age-appropriate inpatient programming for adolescents who are suffering from mental health conditions, such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. We can also help young people who are dealing with co-occurring concerns, like addictions, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and eating disorders.

Adolescents can benefit from our inpatient program by receiving intensive support in a structured and nurturing environment. This setting allows them to focus on their healing journey without external distractions.

Our inpatient program for adolescents includes a variety of therapies, such as:

  • Individual therapy: Our licensed social workers conduct one-on-one sessions with patients as needed, allowing them to openly discuss personal hardships and develop skills to overcome them.
  • Group therapy: Daily group sessions give adolescents the opportunity to share experiences, receive encouragement, and nurture supportive relationships with their peers.
  • Family therapy: We recognize the crucial role of family members in the healing process. In weekly sessions, social workers help patients and their loved ones build mutual trust, respect, and understanding, guiding them toward a healthier family dynamic.
  • Experiential therapies: Certified therapists facilitate daily activities like art, music, and recreational therapies, allowing adolescents to express themselves, find enjoyment, and enhance their self-confidence.

A key component of our adolescent inpatient program is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). This practice is designed to help young people:

  • Process their emotions effectively
  • Strengthen communication skills
  • Develop self-awareness
  • Improve relationships with peers and family members
  • Make positive behavioral changes
  • Cultivate empathy toward others
  • Find healthy outlets for stress
  • Learn how to manage conflicts
  • Practice problem-solving techniques

We also offer comprehensive services, including basic medical care provided by family medicine physicians and nurse practitioners and medication management services delivered by our psychiatrists and nursing staff. Adolescents who require these services can expect to meet with our medical team within 24 hours of admission and as needed thereafter.

Young people typically stay in our inpatient program between seven and 10 days, depending on their unique circumstances. Our goal is to help them develop essential life skills so that they can thrive on the path forward.

Adult Inpatient Program

Adults have to constantly juggle career demands, family obligations, and personal relationships, which can lead to emotional strain.

Our adult inpatient program is designed for individuals who are facing various mental health concerns, like:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Schizoaffective disorder

Additionally, we can help adults who are dealing with co-occurring conditions, such as addictions, autism, and eating disorders.

Individuals who participate in our inpatient program can receive compassionate care in a safe setting. At our hospital, adults can step away from the demands of daily life and regain stability.

Patients can take part in individual, group, and family therapy sessions, each led by licensed social workers. Building a sense of community is a critical part of the healing process, which is why group therapy is fundamental to our programming. These sessions give adults the opportunity to connect with peers and understand that they’re not alone in their struggles.

Additionally, adults can engage in art, music, and recreational activities. Our certified therapists facilitate these daily sessions, creating an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and personal discovery.

In therapy sessions, our team may incorporate dialectical behavior therapy, an evidence-based practice that helps patients regulate their emotions, improve communication skills, and manage stress effectively.

We also offer basic medical care and medication management services for those who require them. Patients can benefit from immediate medical attention upon admission and ongoing support throughout their stay.

The average length of stay in this program is between seven and 10 days, but this may be extended or shortened based on individual progress.

Senior Inpatient Program

Transitioning to retirement, grieving the loss of loved ones, and dealing with age-related health challenges are just a few of the many life changes senior adults face. These experiences can cause significant distress and make it difficult for them to maintain their well-being.

At our hospital, older adults can receive focused care for a number of mental health conditions, such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. We are also able to address additional concerns that often coincide with aging, such as dementia.

Our licensed social workers lead individual, group, and family therapy sessions, which give seniors the opportunity to:

  • Address current thought patterns and behaviors
  • Foster meaningful connections
  • Improve decision-making abilities
  • Gain insight into themselves and others
  • Strengthen problem-solving skills

Additionally, daily art, music, and recreational activities, led by certified therapists, can help seniors explore new interests and rediscover a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

We also offer evidence-based therapies, like dialectical behavior therapy. This practice may be beneficial for senior adults who:

  • Feel overwhelmed by current circumstances and future uncertainties
  • Are struggling to adjust to retirement or aging
  • Have trouble forming or maintaining relationships
  • Find it difficult to cope with feelings of loneliness or isolation
  • Require structured guidance to manage daily routines and tasks

In addition to therapeutic support, our medical team can provide routine health assessments, checkups, and medication management services as necessary.

The duration of our inpatient program is based on each patient’s specific requirements and overall health condition. We strive to give senior adults the tools they need to navigate this stage of life with confidence.
